Police arrested 12 suspects in the Abuja robbery that killed Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu and a guard, with two confessing roles in the deaths.
The police in Abuja have arrested 12 suspected armed robbers linked to the violent attack at Unique Apartments, Katampe, which led to the deaths of Arise TV anchor, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Sani Sirajo, confessed that he tried to prevent Somtochukwu, popularly known as Sommie, from jumping off the three-storey building but was “overwhelmed by her weight.”
The police disclosed that another suspect, Shamsudeen Hassan, admitted to shooting the security guard as he attempted to stop the intruders.
The incident occurred on September 29 when about 15 armed men stormed the 16-flat apartment complex. Sommie reportedly leapt from the building in an attempt to escape, while the security guard was shot dead.
Police said stolen phones led to the arrest of four suspects shortly after the crime. Weapons recovered included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, live ammunition, and victims’ phones.
