The UK has unveiled 82 mid-skilled professions eligible for temporary work visas to tackle labour shortages and promote economic stability.
The United Kingdom’s Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has released a report recommending 82 mid-skilled occupations eligible for temporary work visas under a new migration pathway designed to address labour shortages. Commissioned by the Home Office, the report identifies roles critical to national infrastructure as part of efforts to balance net migration with economic growth.
MAC chair Brian Bell said the committee proposed visa durations between three and five years while supporting in-country transitions to higher-skilled roles under the skilled worker route. “English Language requirements should be no lower than B1,” Bell stated. He added that the list is provisional and would undergo further review before a final version is published in July 2026.
The listed professions include artists, writers, carpenters, HR officers, plumbers, and technicians, among others. The new pathway aims to fill skill gaps while ensuring opportunities for career progression within the UK workforce.
