Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to use his recent Middle East peace success as a model to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to help broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia following his recent success in securing a ceasefire in the Middle East.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said the discussion was “very positive and productive,” describing Trump’s Middle East peace deal as “an outstanding achievement.” He added, “If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war.”
Zelenskyy said he briefed Trump on recent Russian attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and expressed gratitude for Washington’s continued support. “I informed President Trump about Russia’s attacks on our energy system—and I appreciate his willingness to support us,” he wrote.
According to Zelenskyy, the leaders discussed new initiatives to bolster Ukraine’s air defense and secure “concrete agreements” for stronger protection.
He added, “There are good options and solid ideas on how to truly strengthen us. There needs to be readiness on the Russian side to engage in real diplomacy—this can be achieved through strength.”
