Security officials at Lagos airport arrested passengers allegedly travelling with $6.1m in cash. The suspects have been handed to the EFCC for investigation.
Security officials at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA 1) in Lagos have arrested several passengers alleged to be travelling on an Aero Contractors flight with over $6.1 million in cash.
Sources familiar with the matter said the suspects, believed to be acting for a politically exposed person, were intercepted by Aviation Security (AVSEC) officials at the domestic terminal.
They were later handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for interrogation.
“We are still working with the EFCC to unravel the full details,” a senior AVSEC official told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday.
FAAN spokesperson Faithful Hope-Ivbaze requested that questions be sent by SMS but had yet to respond at press time.
