Finance Minister Wale Edun is recuperating at home in Abuja after a brief illness, with the Presidency dismissing reports of a stroke or plans to replace him.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, is recovering at his Abuja residence after falling ill, The PUNCH has learnt.
Multiple sources in the Presidency confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has no plans to replace him despite his indisposition.
A senior official dismissed reports that the minister suffered a stroke or was flown abroad for treatment. “Yes, he’s indisposed. He’s sick, which is a bit serious, but it’s not stroke,” the source said. “As I’m talking to you, he’s in his house. He has not been flown anywhere.”
Another presidency official added, “He’s being attended to by Nigerian doctors. If he needs medical care outside Nigeria, he will go. But he’s still at home.”
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed Edun’s condition, saying, “Wale Edun is about 69 years old. He suddenly fell ill. As we are talking, he is in Nigeria. He is recuperating.”
The presidency’s clarification follows reports suggesting Tinubu might replace Edun, who will miss this year’s IMF and World Bank meetings in Washington, D.C., where CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso will lead Nigeria’s delegation.
