APC pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state, says Wabara

Wabara says recent defections of PDP governors to the APC confirm a grand plan to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, says the recent defections of PDP governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirm his warning that the ruling party is pursuing a one-party state agenda.

Reacting to the defection of Enugu Governor Peter Mbah and reports linking Bayelsa’s Douye Diri to the APC, Wabara accused the ruling party of “stifling democracy.”

“I saw this coming. I raised the alarm, but was ignored. This is not the democracy that we jealously nurtured and guarded. This is a corrupted version of democracy,” he said.

He alleged that the APC was intimidating opposition members into submission and blamed the party’s refusal to implement electoral reforms for the ongoing defections.

“The APC is killing Nigeria’s democracy by muzzling dissent,” he said, urging PDP members to stay united ahead of the 2027 elections.
