Labour Party National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim has said Peter Obi will not contest the 2027 presidential election, claiming the former Anambra governor is only enjoying media attention and has rejected the party’s ticket.

The National Secretary of the Labour Party loyal to Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has declared that Peter Obi will not contest the 2027 presidential election, dismissing ongoing speculation about his political future.

Speaking on Trust TV on Thursday, Farouk said, “I can tell you, Obi is not going to contest presidential election. Obi is enjoying media publicity but 2027, he is not interested in it. We have offered him presidential ticket, he rejected it.”

The LP Secretary added that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unchallenged by a “demoralised” opposition ahead of 2027, noting that the APC should not be blamed for Labour Party’s internal divisions.

“When you look at those people contesting with Tinubu… are these really opponents?” he asked, suggesting the President faces weak competition.

Farouk also questioned Obi’s political alignment, alleging confusion over whether he belongs to the PDP, ADC, or LP.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party’s Interim National Committee has accused the APC of sponsoring internal crises within the party.

In a leaked memo, LP spokesman Toni Akeni criticised the leadership’s failure to conduct congresses and threatened to resign over alleged infiltration by APC loyalists.
