A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an attempt by the Nigeria Police Force to stop the planned ‘Free Nnamdi KanuNow’ protest scheduled for Monday in the nation’s capital.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the Nigeria Police Force’s request to stop the “Free Nnamdi KanuNow” protest, clearing the way for it to proceed on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had sent police lawyers to court seeking an ex parte order against activist and protest organiser, Omoyele Sowore. Justice Umar refused to grant the motion, directing that Sowore be served and the case heard properly on Tuesday.

Reacting on his X handle, Sowore wrote, “IG of PoliceNG Kayode Egbetokun dispatched police lawyers to sue me, in an effort to halt the FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Aso Rock Villa on Monday. However, the judge, Justice Umar of Federal High Court in Abuja, refused to grant the ex parte motion…”

The ruling means the protest can proceed as planned, raising expectations of a significant turnout near the Presidential Villa despite security concerns.
