Makinde says Nigerians should focus on ending hunger, not political defections.
The Oyo governor says only economic recovery, not political realignments, will shape 2027 elections.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says the wave of defections among politicians means little compared to the economic hardship facing Nigerians.
In his bi-monthly newsletter released on Thursday, Makinde wrote, “I’ll only be moved when hunger defects into the APC. Families are being forced to make impossible choices daily. These are the real issues, not political realignments.”
He said the widening inequality gap is deepening frustration and that “it is hunger, not partisanship, that fuels despair.”
Makinde noted that the outcome of the 2027 elections will depend on the Nigerian people, not political manoeuvres. “Our job in the PDP is to prove we can deliver relief where others have brought pain,” he said.
He added that the party’s upcoming convention in Ibadan will serve as an opportunity to “reset and reassert our values,” urging Nigerians to stay engaged and hopeful that “when hunger finally defects, prosperity will return.”
