Police in Bauchi have arrested a trader accused of killing a motorcyclist to fund his wedding to a third wife.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old petty trader, Mamuda Zakari Yau, popularly known as Wadata, for allegedly killing a commercial motorcyclist in an attempt to steal his motorcycle to raise money for his planned third marriage.
Police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said in a statement on Friday that the incident occurred on October 16, 2025, after a distress call from Unguwan Dr. Sulaiman Adamu Quarters. Preliminary investigation revealed that Yau engaged the victim, 25-year-old Basiru Mohammed of Zango Sa’idawa, in a fight and fatally stabbed him with a knife before fleeing with his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number NNG 813 UM.
