The Imo State Police Command has opened an investigation following a viral post by anti-cultism advocacy group Naija Confra accusing some police officers in Owerri of being members of the Vikings confraternity, one of Nigeria’s most violent cult groups.
In a video shared Friday on social media, the group alleged that several uniformed officers were “openly disgracing the Nigerian Police Force by engaging in cult activities,” while wearing Vikings (DNKI) berets and caps. The footage quickly went viral, drawing widespread outrage and calls for disciplinary action.
Posting via its handle @naijaconfra, the platform wrote: “These are police officers in Owerri, Imo State, openly disgracing the Nigerian Police Force by engaging in cult activities. They are boldly wearing Vikings (DNKI) berets and caps — an evil cult group responsible for countless deaths across Nigeria and beyond.”
Reacting, the Imo State Police Command described the incident as “an unacceptable display of unprofessionalism.” Police spokesperson DSP Okoye Henry said Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma had ordered a thorough investigation, assuring that the “officers involved will face serious disciplinary measures.”
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism and restoring public trust.
