US Supreme Court has ran out of money

The Supreme Court has depleted its funds due to the ongoing shutdown but will continue core judicial duties.

The U.S. Supreme Court has officially exhausted its reserves as the government shutdown enters its fourth week, forcing operational changes in line with federal law.

Public Information Officer Patricia McCabe said the Court “expects to run out of funding on October 18” and “if new appropriated funds do not become available,” adjustments will be made to comply with federal requirements. Although the building will close to the public, justices will continue essential duties, including rulings on key cases involving the Voting Rights Act, Trump’s tariffs, and his appeal to deploy troops to Chicago.

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts said, “Excepted work will be performed without pay during the funding lapse. Staff members not performing excepted work will be placed on furlough.”

The shutdown continues as Republicans reject Democrats’ demands on Affordable Care Act subsidies and federal rehiring, extending the political standoff.
