The police in Imo State have arrested three officers filmed chanting and firing shots in what appeared to be a cult gathering in Owerri.
The Imo State Police Command has arrested and detained three officers filmed engaging in alleged cult activities in Owerri, the state capital.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye said in a statement on Saturday that the officers—Inspector Obinna Peter and Corporals Augustine Amaechi and Victor Ejikeme—were identified from a viral video showing them in Viking cult regalia.
“The officers have been arrested and are presently in detention while the Command has commenced a thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in cultism and other related activities,” Okoye said.
An orderly room trial is scheduled to begin Monday.
Naija Confra, the anti-cultism group that uploaded the video, described the act as “a disgrace to the Nigeria Police Force” and called for urgent reforms to address cult infiltration within security agencies.
