ASUU has confirmed progress in its talks with the Federal Government as its warning strike enters the seventh day, even as the Education Ministry denies claims of neglecting a young maths prodigy.

As the two-week warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) enters its seventh day, the union has confirmed ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government’s Renegotiation Team, led by Yayale Ahmed.

ASUU President, Prof Christopher Piwuna, said progress had been made in five of the union’s seven demands, including arrears of promotions, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), and the confiscation of University of Abuja land.

“Engagements are continuing on all elements of the draft renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement, guided by the principles of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA),” Piwuna said in a bulletin dated October 19, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Education has denied receiving any sponsorship request for 15-year-old maths prodigy, Agbo Adoga, who qualified for the International Mathematics Olympiad in China.

“The ministry affirms that there is no record or correspondence in its files indicating any such request for sponsorship,” said ministry spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, urging the public to disregard unverified reports.
