The Presidency says protests and threats will not influence President Tinubu to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, insisting the matter remains before the courts.
The Presidency says illegal protests and inflammatory statements will not make President Bola Tinubu release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
“Protests, threats, attempts at mob actions, and inflammatory rhetoric do not aid the judicial process,” presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare said on Monday. “Instead, they hinder it, creating unnecessary tension and undermining the rule of law.”
Activist Omoyele Sowore and others had staged protests demanding Kanu’s release, describing his detention as unconstitutional. But Dare dismissed the demonstrations as “outdated and counterproductive,” stressing that “matters of justice are resolved in courts, not on the streets.”
He added that Kanu’s case predates the Tinubu administration and is being handled by the judiciary in line with due process.
“The judiciary should be left alone to do its work without interference. President Tinubu remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served fairly and transparently,” Dare said.
