The family of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has dismissed claims implicating activist Omoyele Sowore in the arrest of Kanu’s brother and lawyer, accusing the government of intimidation and unlawful detention of peaceful protesters.

The family of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has denied claims linking activist Omoyele Sowore to the arrest of Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, during Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kanunta Kanu, speaking for the family, condemned the arrests as unlawful and provocative, demanding the immediate release of all detained protesters.

He described allegations against Sowore as “mischievously incorrect,” saying, “Those pointing accusing fingers at Sowore should stop it. Saying that he sold out Barrister Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu is incorrect.”

Kanunta accused South-East politicians of spreading falsehoods out of embarrassment that “a non-Igbo had the courage to do what they could not.”

The family alleged that the Federal Government was using security agencies to persecute Nnamdi Kanu and destabilize him before his Thursday court appearance.

They also denied reports that the Nigerian Medical Association examined Kanu as ordered by the court, insisting “no NMA medical team visited Kanu.”

The family warned that continued disobedience of court orders could trigger unrest, calling on authorities to respect citizens’ rights and end the persecution of the IPOB leader.
