Sixteen Arab and Islamic nations, including Nigeria, have condemned Israel’s attempt to extend sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territories, calling it a violation of international law and urging global intervention.
Sixteen Arab and Islamic countries, including Nigeria, have jointly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of two draft laws seeking to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and illegal settlements.
In a statement released Thursday and shared by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the nations described the move as a “blatant violation of international law” and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334. The statement reaffirmed that “Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory.”
The signatories include Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Libya, Malaysia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Gambia, Djibouti, Nigeria, and the League of Arab States. They accused Israel of attempting to alter “the demographic composition, character, and status of the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem.”
The countries also welcomed the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) advisory opinion of October 22, 2025, which reaffirmed Israel’s obligations under international humanitarian law to ensure access to essential supplies for residents of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Gaza. The court emphasized Israel’s duty to respect the prohibition on starvation, forced transfer, and deportation.
The joint statement further called on the international community to “shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities” and compel Israel to cease “dangerous escalation and unlawful measures.” It reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
