President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the nation’s military hierarchy, naming new heads for the army, navy, and air force, and appointing Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff.
President Bola Tinubu has carried out a sweeping overhaul of Nigeria’s military leadership, appointing new service chiefs to strengthen national security coordination.
A statement from Sunday Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communication, named Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Major General Waidi Shaibu becomes the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke assumes office as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral Idi Abbas takes over as Chief of Naval Staff, with Major General Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye retaining his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Dare said the appointments take immediate effect, noting that the president aims to inject fresh momentum into the armed forces. Tinubu thanked the outgoing service chiefs for their service and urged the new appointees to enhance professionalism and operational synergy across the military.
