Governor Zulum warns Boko Haram is now using drones for attacks and calls for stronger airspace security.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has raised alarm over reports that Boko Haram insurgents are now using drones to conduct surveillance and launch attacks in the North-East.
Speaking in Mafa on Friday after an insurgent attack, Zulum urged the Federal Government to immediately strengthen Nigeria’s airspace security. “The major issue I want to raise here is the use of drones. I was informed that they used drones in Dikwa. This is extremely worrisome,” he said in a report monitored on BBC Hausa Service.
He warned that the growing use of drones by terrorists poses a grave threat to national security and called for inter-agency collaboration to counter the menace. “The increasing use of drones by adversaries is highly dangerous. We must come together and act decisively to tackle this new dimension,” Zulum added.
He also hinted at possible internal sabotage, urging investigation and tighter border security.
