National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu warned that any violence during the November 8 Anambra governorship election “will be met with a strong, uncompromising response” from security agencies, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed its full preparedness to conduct the polls.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, issued a stern warning on Tuesday, stating that security agencies are prepared to meet any form of violence during the November 8 Anambra State governorship election with a “strong, uncompromising response.”
Speaking at an Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting, Ribadu, represented by Hassan Yahaya Abdullahi, assured that the Federal Government has deployed “robust security arrangements,” including enhanced surveillance and sufficient personnel, to guarantee a peaceful and credible poll. He stressed that political leaders must take full responsibility for maintaining peace.
Meanwhile, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan affirmed the commission’s readiness, noting that “the commission is confident in affirming its full preparedness for the polls,” with plans to deploy about 24,000 personnel. Amupitan urged security agencies to combat vote-buying and create a safe environment. The meeting brings together key security and electoral stakeholders to prevent disruptions by “disruptive elements or desperate politicians.”
