Lagos State officials rescued a mentally unstable woman who tried to file a police complaint against the sun, following swift response to a social media alert.

Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development on Monday rescued a mentally unstable woman who attempted to lodge a complaint against the sun at Panti Police Station.

Witnesses said the woman arrived in a ride-hailing car and insisted that the sun was harassing her, demanding police action. A distress call posted on Instagram alerted the ministry’s Rapid Response Team, which transferred her to a state rehabilitation centre for medical and psychiatric evaluation.

Commissioner Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende praised the swift intervention, noting that “public vigilance through social media played a critical role.” Permanent Secretary Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to report individuals showing signs of acute mental distress, saying “early intervention prevents tragedy.”

Officials confirmed the woman remains under observation. The ministry said social media alerts have reduced average rescue response times from four hours in 2022 to under 90 minutes this year.
