NDDC demands apology and retraction from newspapers over false coup plot reports linking its MD, Dr. Ogbuku.
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has demanded an immediate retraction and public apology from The Punch and Daily Times over reports linking its Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, to an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.
In a letter by its Legal Counsel, Chief Ayodeji Adedipe (SAN), the NDDC described the publications as “entirely false, malicious, and defamatory.”
“Dr. Ogbuku categorically denies these baseless claims. He has not been arrested, invited, or interrogated by any authority in connection with any alleged coup plot or financial misconduct,” the letter stated.
The Commission said the report caused “severe emotional distress and reputational harm” and demanded a retraction and apology in at least four national dailies within seven days.
Failure to comply, it warned, would prompt legal action under the Cybercrimes Act.
