A Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped INEC from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s planned 2025 national convention, citing multiple legal violations by the party.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan.

Justice James Omotosho gave the ruling on Friday after holding that the PDP failed to comply with key legal provisions guiding party congresses and conventions. He noted that evidence from INEC showed congresses were not held in some states, and that official notices signed solely by the National Chairman without the National Secretary were invalid.

The court further ruled that the PDP breached the law by failing to give INEC the mandatory 21-day notice required for proper monitoring.

Justice Omotosho stated that “the party’s non-compliance with the law has placed the planned convention in jeopardy,” and advised the PDP to correct the lapses before proceeding.

Consequently, INEC was barred from receiving, publishing, or recognising any outcome of the convention until the PDP meets all legal conditions.

The suit, filed by three aggrieved PDP members — Austin Nwachukwu, Amah Nnanna, and Turnah George — challenges the legality of the convention and the party’s compliance with internal election laws.
