Police have ruled out terrorism after a mass stabbing on a London-bound train that left two people in critical condition. Two British men were arrested within minutes of the attack.
LONDON (AP) — British police have ruled out terrorism in Saturday’s mass stabbing on a London-bound train and confirmed that two victims remain in life-threatening condition.
Authorities said two men born in the United Kingdom are in custody on suspicion of attempted murder. They were arrested within eight minutes of the first emergency call made at 7:42 p.m. from the train, where passengers described scenes of panic as people fled through carriages and hid in toilets.
“This is a shocking incident and my thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families,” said British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless. “There is nothing to suggest this is a terrorist incident.”
Loveless said one suspect is a 32-year-old Black British man and the other a 35-year-old man of Caribbean descent.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised the “exceptional bravery of staff and passengers,” while King Charles III said he and Queen Camilla were “truly appalled and shocked.”
