Kwankwaso to U.S. govt: “Help Nigeria fight insecurity with technology, not designations”

“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology…”

Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged the United States government to assist Nigeria with technology to combat insecurity instead of designating it as a “country of particular concern.”

According to Trump’s recent statements reported on Truth Social, Nigeria was redesignated as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged genocide against Christians. Trump warned that the United States might take military action “guns-a-blazing” if the Nigerian government failed to stop the killings.

Kwankwaso, in a statement on Sunday, described the pronouncement as “heightened” and called for cooperation rather than threats. “The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country,” he said.

He reiterated that Nigeria “is a sovereign nation whose people face different threats from outlaws across the country” and urged unity among citizens.

The Presidency has denied Trump’s claims, insisting that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion and that the administration continues to protect the rights of all faiths.
