United States President Donald Trump has again insisted that Christians are being killed in “record numbers” in Nigeria and threatened a potential US military intervention, according to Tribune reporting.

Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One on Sunday following a trip to Florida, President Trump reiterated his condemnation of alleged Christian genocide, stating the US will not allow the “killings” to continue. Trump was cited in a short CNN video saying: “They’re killing record numbers of Christians in Nigeria… They’re killing the Christians and killing them in large numbers. We’re not going to allow that to happen.”

The development follows Trump’s earlier post on Truth Social designating Nigeria as a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” and alleging that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria.”

Barely 24 hours after his first comment, President Trump doubled down, announcing a stop to all aid and ordering his Department of War to prepare for possible action. He threatened that the US “may very well go into that now disgraced country, “guns-a-blazing,” to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.” US War Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly announced that the department is preparing for military operations.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, responded to the allegations, stating that the country “stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.”
