Nigeria has intensified international and interfaith engagements to counter false claims of religious intolerance, the Information Minister said after meeting President Tinubu.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains calm and focused as Nigeria strengthens efforts to engage the international community and address concerns about insecurity and religious harmony, according to The Nation reporting.
Briefing State House correspondents after a meeting with the President on Tuesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said concrete steps were being taken to ensure global understanding of Nigeria’s actions toward peace and unity.
“Channels of communication have been opened with international organisations to explain what Nigeria has done, and what more we intend to do, to address both domestic and international concerns,” Idris stated.
He noted that President Tinubu has been holding meetings with religious leaders across faiths to foster mutual understanding. The Minister dismissed allegations of religious intolerance as “absolutely false,” stressing that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion for all.
“Nowhere in Nigeria has there been any policy or action that favours one religion over another,” he said, adding that extremists were behind attempts to divide the nation. Idris urged citizens to remain united, assuring that the President is “taking this very seriously” and that relevant agencies are working to strengthen national unity.
