The Federal Government has pledged to prevent any further ASUU strikes, launching a new transparency system to strengthen accountability in tertiary education.
According to State House reporting, the Federal Government has vowed to ensure that public universities will no longer be shut over labour disputes, promising to do “everything humanly possible” to stop further strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu has directed the ministry to keep students in school while pursuing transparent, data-driven reforms across tertiary institutions.
“The President has mandated us that he doesn’t want ASUU to go on strike. We are doing everything possible to ensure our students stay in school,” Alausa said.
He disclosed that the government had met most of ASUU’s demands and resumed dialogue to prevent disruptions. To boost accountability, the ministry launched the Federal Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Dashboard, a public data portal tracking student enrollment, funding, and TETFund interventions.
Alausa said the government has unified negotiations under one committee led by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed to engage all tertiary unions. “This is a listening government, and we will resolve significant parts of their concerns,” he stated.
He added that reforms would restore Nigeria’s universities to global competitiveness.
