Katsina earmarks N341bn for social sector in 2026 budget

The Katsina State Government has earmarked over N341 billion for policies and programmes in the social sector in the 2026 fiscal year.

According to GUARDIAN reporting, the Katsina State Government has proposed to spend over N341 billion on the social sector in its 2026 fiscal year budget. The figure was disclosed by Dikko Radda during his presentation of the budget estimate before the State House of Assembly.

The total budget estimate stands at N897.8 billion, marking an increase of N205.6 billion over the 2025 figure. The breakdown reveals that recurrent expenditure is expected to absorb N167.7 billion (about 18.68 per cent), while capital expenditure will take N730 billion (about 81.32 per cent).

Funding sources for the budget include N577 billion in recurrent revenue, with N489 billion coming from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and N88.5 billion from internally generated revenue (IGR).

In terms of allocations by sector, the administrative sector is to receive N177 billion (19.74 per cent), the economic sector N371.8 billion (41.42 per cent), the law and justice sector N7.3 billion (0.81 per cent) and the social sector N341 billion (38.03 per cent).

Within the social sector allocation, the Ministry of Basic, Secondary and Higher Education is slated to receive N156.2 billion (17.41 per cent), the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport N117 billion (13.05 per cent) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development N78.6 billion (8.76 per cent). Further allocations include N67.5 billion to the Ministry of Health, N62.8 billion to the Ministry of Water Resources, and N53.8 billion to the Ministry of Environment.

Governor Radda urged the Assembly to expedite deliberations and approval of the budget to ensure timely implementation of government policies and programmes.
