Northern Christians petition Tinubu, Fagbemi over alleged persecution, bias in appointments

ACIPA has accused the Nigerian government of continued persecution and marginalization of Northern Christians in employment and federal appointments.

Despite government denials of persecution and genocide against Christians, there is clear evidence that Northern and Hausa Christians are being systematically denied rights to employment, scholarships, and appointments.

In an open letter to President Bola Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the group alleged that “there is a systematic support of persecution against Christians in the North.”

ACIPA cited the case of a Christian candidate from the North East who reportedly scored 83%, the highest in an interview for Permanent Secretary positions but was bypassed for a candidate who scored 54%. “Someone who scored 54%, emerging fifth position, was announced as Permanent Secretary by the Office of the Head of Service on 4th November, 2025,” the group stated.

Dr. Luke Shehu, ACIPA Chairman, said, “We are not only renouncing and rejecting the travesty and persecution but calling on all concerned to correct this abnormality.” The group urged advocates to rise against what it called a “travesty that has almost become a norm.”
