Activist Osita Obi has stated that most crimes in Anambra and across the South-East are perpetrated by indigenes, not Hausa-Fulani, blaming local complicity and corrupt officials for worsening insecurity.
The Convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi, has said that most criminal activities in Anambra State and the South-East are carried out by indigenes, not outsiders.
According to VANGUARD reporting, Obi argued that communities are aware of the criminals among them but often choose to protect them.
“There is no community in Anambra State, even in my own community, that doesn’t know the criminals among them,” he said, alleging that “some government functionaries and top police officials are benefiting from this insecurity.”
Obi criticised the practice of shielding offenders, noting that it hinders genuine efforts to restore peace. He added that when suspects handed to police are released shortly after, whistleblowers’ lives are endangered.
“Suppose I come out to give the criminals in my community and that person is taken to the police, but tomorrow he is released — what of my security?” he asked.
Obi insisted that insecurity can only end when traditional rulers, local officials, and citizens unite to expose perpetrators, stressing that “98 per cent of crimes are committed by Igbo people, not Hausa-Fulani.”
