The U.S. government has announced the revocation of visas for foreign nationals… The visa revocation, the State Department said, was “promises made, promises kept” by President Donald Trump’s administration.
The U.S. government has revoked the visas of 80,000 foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in an action the State Department characterized as a fulfilment of promises by the administration of President Donald Trump, according to PEOPLE GAZETTE reporting. The U.S. Department of State stated that Mr. Trump “will always put the safety and interests of the American people first.”
Major reasons for these revocations include assault, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI). The State Department specified that in 2025, 16,000 of the revocations were for those involved in driving under the influence, 12,000 for those involved in assault, and 8,000 for those involved in theft, respectively.
Other reasons cited for the visa revocations include terrorism, supporting terrorism, public safety threats, and overstaying visas. The U.S. government did not immediately provide a breakdown of the number of Nigerian nationals affected by the revocation, which applies to Nigerians and “other nationals.”
