Three people died and several others were injured after a tipper truck with failed brakes caused a multi-vehicle crash in Ikorodu, Lagos.

At least three people have died and several others were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash at Powerline Junction inward Aleje, Ikorodu, Lagos State, according to The Guardian Nigeria reporting.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a post on Saturday, stating that the crash involved a tipper truck that suffered brake failure, three tricycles (popularly known as Marwa), a Toyota Corolla, and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) bus.

“We recorded a fatal accident at Powerline junction inward Aleje in Ikorodu; it involved a tipper that had a brake failure, three tricycles (Marwa), a Corolla car and an MPV bus. Three lives were lost and several people sustained injuries,” LASTMA stated.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Nigerian Police, and LASTMA were at the scene providing assistance and controlling traffic. LASTMA noted that congestion had extended beyond Sabo roundabout, while counterflow measures were introduced to ease movement.

The incident comes two days after a similar fatal crash at Ekoro Junction, Abule-Egba, where a tricycle operator died following a trailer’s brake failure.

LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq described the Abule-Egba accident as “a harrowing and deeply lamentable road catastrophe,” adding that two others were severely injured.
