Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says US President Donald Trump was correct to raise killings in Nigeria and urged decisive action against jihadists, after discussions with US officials.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC-Abia North), chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, said on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump did not lie about killings in Nigeria and that “he said the truth,” the senator told newsmen.
According to a report from DAILYPOST, Kalu made the remarks while addressing US concerns over attacks on Christians and Trump’s warning of possible military action.
Kalu stressed the violence affects all faiths: “Nigerians are being killed, whether they are Christians or Muslims.” He urged firm measures against extremist elements, saying, “There are jihadists who just want to destroy Nigeria. We should blacklist them without pity so that they will be smoked out.”
The former Abia State governor said he had raised Nigeria’s security challenges with two former US presidents (one Republican, one Democrat) and six serving US senators, who expressed willingness to assist.
He also suggested American intelligence likely located terrorist hideouts, adding: “You can see that the Nigerian Air Force is already acting, possibly using information shared by the U.S. to bomb terrorist hideouts. That’s how it should be.”
