Ondo lawmakers have rejected Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s N531 billion supplementary budget, citing poor execution of the 2025 Appropriation Law and lack of transparency.
Tension is rising between Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and members of the State House of Assembly following the submission of a N531 billion supplementary budget for legislative approval.
According to DAILY POST, the budget, read on the floor by Clerk Barrister Benjamin Jayeola on November 4, 2025, seeks funding for ongoing capital projects and recurrent expenditures, including salaries, pensions, and new infrastructural works. Of the total sum, N254,448,081,000 is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N277,319,130,000 is allocated for capital projects.
Lawmakers reportedly rejected the proposal, questioning the rationale for such a large additional request barely two months before the fiscal year ends. One lawmaker said, “We did not even finish the sitting at the House on November 4. Many lawmakers had to walk out of the sitting. It became a rowdy session because many of us questioned what the executive had done with the funds already approved.”
Another legislator accused the government of threats and lack of transparency, stating, “This government has not been transparent in its financial dealings. The budget performance is abysmal, yet they want another N531 billion. It’s simply unacceptable.”
The supplementary budget has been referred to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation. Sources said lawmakers are divided, with some planning a session to approve the request despite opposition. The state government and Assembly Speaker Rt Hon. Olamide Oladiji had not responded to inquiries as of press time.
