House set for Epstein files showdown

The House is moving toward a December vote on releasing all DOJ files on Jeffrey Epstein, a move President Trump has tried to prevent.

According to a report from POLITICO, the long-debated push to release all Justice Department files on the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is advancing toward a December floor battle in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The move will follow the swearing-in of Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) on Wednesday, ending a 50-day delay due to the government shutdown. Shortly after, Grijalva is expected to provide the decisive 218th signature on a discharge petition led by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), which forces a vote on the measure bypassing Speaker Mike Johnson.

The petition’s completion triggers a countdown of seven legislative days before the bill reaches the floor, setting the likely vote for early December. While Johnson could block the effort, he has privately assured colleagues he will not do so if the signatures reach 218.

President Donald Trump has sought to downplay the controversy, calling the Epstein probe a “Democratic hoax.” Still, Massie said he is confident the vote will pass, noting some GOP members plan to support the measure.

The Oversight Committee’s ongoing probe into Epstein’s network continues alongside this push, but the Justice Department has paused cooperation during the shutdown, delaying document releases.

The showdown is expected to deepen political tensions within the GOP.
