Ekwenche Research Institute called for restructuring or a referendum to address Nigeria’s “fundamental incompatibility,” urging peaceful dialogue and international mediation.

A human rights organization, Ekwenche Research Institute, has urged the urgent restructuring of Nigeria or the conduct of a referendum to address what it described as the country’s “fundamental incompatibility.” In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Mbajiogu Akujieze, Secretary Mazi Luke Nwannunu, and Chairman of Education and Culture Rev. Emeka Nwachukwu, the group highlighted rising instability and insecurity.

The organization’s research aligns with findings by Intersociety, which alleged that Christians and other minorities are being systematically targeted in parts of the country. Ekwenche called for peaceful dialogue among Nigeria’s nationalities, under international mediation, to explore restructuring, confederation, or peaceful separation.

“We respectfully call upon the international community to recognize that the Nigerian crisis is not merely one of bad governance, but of fundamental incompatibility within a forced union,” the statement read. Rejecting violence, the group emphasized a peaceful resolution that guarantees equality and dignity for all citizens.
