Banners promoting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the 2027 presidency surfaced at the PDP national convention venue in Ibadan.

Banners promoting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the 2027 presidential election have appeared at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention in Ibadan, according to a report from THE CABLE.

The report stated that Ibadan, the Oyo capital, has become the centre of activities ahead of the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16. When TheCable visited the Adamasingba Stadium on Friday, campaign materials bearing Makinde’s image were prominently displayed at the entrance.

One banner, mounted by a group known as Lana Fun Seyi, featured the inscription: “Seyi Makinde for President.” Another, signed by Fapetu Stephen of Ido LGA, read: “Relax, Seyi Makinde will fix Nigeria 2027.”

The development has intensified speculation about Makinde’s presidential ambition. In 2024, the governor stated that he would declare his intentions “when he is ready,” adding that speculations about his political future were “unnecessary and unsolicited.”

The venue also displayed posters of Kabiru Turaki, former minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, vying for national chairman, and Taofeek Arapaja, former PDP deputy national chairman, seeking the position of national secretary.

The convention is expected to produce new officers for the party’s National Working Committee. However, conflicting court rulings have created uncertainty around the event. While an Oyo court ordered preparations to continue, an Abuja court halted the convention and directed INEC not to recognise it.

A faction led by Sam Anyanwu announced a postponement on Thursday, a claim rejected by the Umar Damagum-led leadership.
