Russia’s drone and missile attack on Kyiv killed six, injured 35, damaged buildings, and sparked fires, Zelenskyy called it deliberate.
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv early Friday, killing six people and injuring at least 35, including a pregnant woman. Fires erupted, debris scattered, and explosions echoed across the city, Ukrainian authorities said.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said emergency crews responded to multiple strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported Russia used at least 430 drones and 18 missiles. “A specially calculated attack to cause as much harm as possible to people and civilians,” he said on Telegram.
Moscow denied targeting civilians, claiming its strikes hit military-industrial and energy facilities. Kyiv residents recounted near-death experiences. Mariia Kalchenko said, “I didn’t hear anything, I just realized that my hair was on fire.” Eight of Kyiv’s ten districts suffered damage, and power and water outages are possible. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 14 missiles using Patriot systems, while Russia reported intercepting hundreds of Ukrainian drones over its territory.
