The Nigerian Army says troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade repelled a terrorist ambush in Borno, with four personnel killed, while dismissing reports that the Brigade Commander was abducted.
According to a report from VANGUARD, troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have repelled an ambush by terrorists around Wajiroko in Azir-Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State while returning from a routine patrol along the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, said the patrol team, led by the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. M. Uba, and supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, came under intense fire from terrorists.
Anele said the troops fought through the ambush with “superior firepower,” forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray. She confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF members were killed in the encounter.
The Nigerian Army has commiserated with the families of the deceased, describing them as heroes who died in active service to the nation.
Anele also dismissed circulating online reports alleging that the Brigade Commander was abducted during the attack. She urged the public to disregard the claims, describing them as fake news.
“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, praised the courage and resilience of the troops,” she said, noting that their dedication in one of the country’s most challenging operational environments reflects the sacrifices made daily to keep Nigeria safe.
