The PDP national convention has expelled several high-profile members, including Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, over alleged actions deemed harmful to the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, according to a report from THE SUN. Others removed include former National Legal Adviser, Mr Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN); Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; George Turner; and Hon Umar Bature.
Former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, who moved the motion for the expulsions, said the decision followed “various activities they engaged in aimed at destroying the party.”
Earlier, Senator Ben Obi, Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee, asked delegates whether the gathering should be an Elective Convention, moving a motion to that effect. Mr Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) seconded the motion.
Governor Seyi Makinde also moved a motion for the ratification of Executive Committees and Structures across states whose congresses complied with the PDP constitution and were monitored by INEC and security agencies, exempting Imo, Abia, Enugu and Rivers. Mr Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu seconded the motion.
The convention further approved the dissolution of the current National Working Committee (NWC) and amended sections of the party’s constitution.
