Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose have exchanged heated words over an abusive “Thank You” message sent after Fayose’s 65th birthday.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday disclosed an insulting and abusive “Thank You” text message he received from former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose following Obasanjo’s attendance at Fayose’s 65th birthday in Lagos last week, according to PUNCH.

The message, shared with journalists in Abeokuta, saw Fayose thanking Obasanjo for attending while condemning what he described as the 89-year-old former president’s “irresponsible comments” at the event. Fayose added that he refrained from responding publicly to show “the whole world the difference between a sane man and a mad man,” and demanded that Obasanjo return the money he sent to facilitate his attendance.

The note read in part: “Dear Baba Obasanjo… You went so low… someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo… It is also obvious that you have lost your sanity or should I say, this is the heightened stage of dementia.”

Responding, Obasanjo said, “Ayo… Your money has been sent back… in the same bag as he delivered it, unopened by me.”

At the event, Obasanjo also criticized Fayose’s past conduct, recounting repeated insults and failed poultry investments, and urged him to seek “genuine repentance” and embrace humility in the years ahead.
