Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Plateau Governor Caleb Muftwang have distanced themselves from the expulsion of Nyesom Wike and Samuel Anyanwu from the PDP, saying they were unaware of the decision until it was formally moved.

The decision to expel FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and others from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during Saturday’s national convention reportedly took Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Plateau Governor Caleb Muftwang by surprise, according to a report from THE NATION.

Fintiri, chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, and Muftwang immediately dissociated themselves from the expulsion, saying they had no prior knowledge of the decision. A source close to the party revealed that the move had been planned before delegates arrived in Ibadan but was deliberately kept from the two governors to prevent any opposition.

The source explained, “Fintiri is Wike’s friend and they know that he has been playing double game all through. But they needed him to be at the convention. If they had told him of their plans, the fear was he would not have agreed to go along with the plan.”

On Muftwang, the source added, “He owes Wike. Don’t forget that all PDP lawmakers from Plateau State lost out due to internal crisis in the party. He lost at the tribunal and Appeal Court. That is why they immediately distanced themselves from the expulsion.”

The National Convention, described as the PDP’s highest organ, saw the motion for the expulsions formally moved by Chief Bode George, leaving the two governors blindsided by the development.
