PDP National Chairman Kabiru Turaki has urged US President Donald Trump and other developed nations to intervene to “save democracy in Nigeria,” following violent clashes between rival PDP factions at the party secretariat in Abuja
Kabiru Turaki, newly elected national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed to US President Donald Trump to “save democracy in Nigeria,” citing “actions of those undermining democracy and progress.” Speaking after gaining access to the party secretariat in Abuja following a prolonged standoff, Turaki said, “I want to call on President Trump; what is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians. He should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat.
I’m calling on all other developed nations: come and save Nigeria, come and save democracy.” The appeal comes amid violent clashes between Turaki’s faction and the Nyesom Wike-backed group at Wadata Plaza, where police fired teargas to disperse supporters. Turaki accused Wike, minister of the FCT, of sponsoring thugs who wielded cudgels outside the gates, while the police allegedly shielded the perpetrators.
