Three worshippers were killed and several others abducted when terrorists attacked a church in Eruku, Kwara State.
Panic and tears swept through Eruku town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening after terrorists stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.
Sources told the outlet that the attackers invaded the church during a meeting and opened fire immediately, forcing worshippers to run for cover. “The gunmen came in suddenly and started shooting. Three people were killed instantly,” one source said. “They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken.”
The assailants reportedly escaped through bush paths linking Eruku to neighbouring communities, leaving residents in fear and confusion. Earlier, SaharaReporters had reported that tension erupted in the town after heavily armed terrorists launched a coordinated attack, causing travellers and residents to flee into surrounding bushes.
Sources said the attackers entered through one of the major routes, firing sporadically as they advanced. Vehicles were abandoned on the road as people scrambled for safety, while eyewitnesses reported sustained gunfire echoing across parts of the community.
A traveller hiding in the bush recorded a frantic video pleading for help as gunshots sounded in the background. “Please, come to our rescue… The community is in chaos,” he said.
According to SAHARA REPORTERS, the terrorists continued moving across communities in Kwara State without resistance. There is no official reaction yet from the Kwara State Police Command or the state government.
