Iba Gani Adams has warned that terrorists occupying forests across the South West are mobilizing to launch attacks, according to a report from newsmen in Lagos.
The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, on Tuesday raised the alarm that terrorists and bandits operating from forests across the South West are plotting coordinated attacks on the region, according to VANGUARD. Speaking at a press briefing, Adams warned that the infiltrators have taken over forest areas in Kogi, Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, and parts of Edo and Delta states.
He urged Yoruba people to intensify vigilance and utilise local intelligence mechanisms, insisting that the threat is real and immediate. Adams criticised South West governors for failing to act on his proposals for a regional security summit. “These are perilous times in Yorubaland… Merchants of death have surrounded the more than 60 million inhabitants of this geographical space,” he said, warning that the attackers were “waiting for the signal from their foreign sponsors.”
Adams lamented that his earlier warning to governors received no response. He added that insecurity was “spreading like wildfire” due to high financial returns from kidnapping. He claimed intelligence reports show terrorists are preparing to leave the forests and invade towns and cities.
He endorsed a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to help address insecurity, questioning opposition to foreign military intervention. Adams said the situation must be tackled urgently before it becomes unbearable.
