Bandits attacked Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, killing three people and abducting at least ten worshippers, according to a report from the state police and local sources.

Rampaging bandits killed three people and abducted at least ten worshippers during a service at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti local government area of Kwara State on Tuesday, according to a report from the Kwara State Police Command and local sources.

Spokesperson of Eruku Community, Olasukanmi Ayeni, confirmed that victims included Tunde Asabe, Segun Alaja, and one Aderemi, while another girl remains critically ill from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Ayeni noted that bandits had attempted to breach the community for four weeks but were repelled until Tuesday. “All efforts we made to the state and local government when the bandits were making efforts to penetrate our community … were not answered,” he said.

He commended local police and hunters, adding, “The police in the community have been doing a fantastic job by following our local hunters to the forests to track the hideout of the bandits and chase them away; otherwise, it would have been a worst-case scenario for us.”

The state police, through spokesperson Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, confirmed the attack, stating, “The DPO Eruku and his team of police operatives, in collaboration with vigilantes, swiftly responded to the sound of gunshots … prompting the hoodlums to flee into the bush.”

CP Adekimi Ojo praised the response and assured that security agencies will continue operations to eliminate the bandits.
