A nighttime fire suspected to have been caused by a mosquito coil has killed a father, mother, and two young daughters in Kano’s Tarauni LGA, leaving only a 12-year-old boy alive.
A tragic fire outbreak in the early hours of Wednesday claimed the lives of four members of a single family in Kundila Layin Baba Impossible, Tarauni LGA of Kano State, after a mosquito coil allegedly ignited a blaze that consumed parts of their home. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the victims were identified as the father, Shodandi (43); his wife, Rafi’a (30); and their daughters, Mardiya Shodandi (3) and Yusira Shodandi (1½), while a 12-year-old boy, Aminu Shodandi, was rescued alive.
The fire, which broke out around 04:13 a.m., engulfed two bedrooms, a parlour, a toilet, and a kitchen before firefighters could bring it under control. Despite the swift response, four occupants were found dead, and preliminary investigations indicate that a burning mosquito coil left in the parlour overnight likely triggered the fatal incident.
