President Tinubu has instructed Defence Minister Bello Matawalle to relocate to Kebbi State to monitor security efforts following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls.
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls, according to DAILY POST. Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara State, is expected to remain in Kebbi to oversee security efforts aimed at securing the release of the kidnapped students.
Gunmen abducted 24 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga town, Kebbi State, at around 4 a.m. on Monday. Matawalle is scheduled to arrive in Birni-Kebbi on Friday. His previous experience in handling mass kidnappings and banditry during his tenure as Zamfara governor from 2019 to 2023, including the abduction of 279 girls in Jangebe in February 2021, is seen as crucial in addressing the current crisis.
President Tinubu also postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaited further security briefings on the Kebbi schoolgirls and the recent attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
