Terrorists attacked St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State during the night, abducting an unconfirmed number of students and staff as authorities work to verify details.
Terrorists have invaded St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting an unconfirmed number of students and staff during a night raid reportedly carried out between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.
Sources said several students were taken, while a church official confirmed the incident but noted, “Yes, it is true, but I am not in a position to give details. The church will issue an official statement later in the day.”
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would provide details later, but the Head of Department, Disaster and Relief in Agwara LGA, Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, confirmed the attack, stating that the exact number of abductees was still being verified.
The incident follows recent school kidnappings in Kebbi and widespread closures in Kwara, occurring as President Bola Tinubu cancelled two foreign trips to address rising insecurity.
